The Bishops’ Wives Circle Scholarship was first established in 1985 as the Deborah Mason Patterson Scholarship, named in honor of Mother Patterson, the wife of our first elected Presiding Bishop. This initiative was organized under the direction of Mother Daisy Sherman. In 2017, under the leadership of Mother Willie Mae Sheard, then-President of the Bishops’ Wives Circle, the scholarship was renamed The Patterson / Sherman Scholarship. This change honored not only the legacy of Mother Deborah Mason Patterson but also the faithful service of Mother Daisy Sherman, who served as President of the Circle for over 30 years. As Bishops’ Wives and leaders in the Church of God in Christ, we firmly believe that higher education is essential to the strength of our families, churches, and nation. Today, under the leadership of Mother Yolanda Bryant, the Bishops’ Wives Circle continues this tradition by providing financial assistance to deserving female students. These funds help them pursue graduate degrees, achieve academic excellence, and prepare for career success within the Church and beyond.
